Signs and Messages

Have you ever felt like you’ve received a sign from a deceased loved one? Do you believe that the dead have the capacity to communicate with the living? When you dream about someone who has passed away is there a deeper message trying to come across to you? Do you sometimes think, maybe that was sign but doubt yourself or discard that small nudge of wonderment calling it a coincidence? I vividly remember my first encounter with a sign, when my grandmother died my mom said that day at work, she distinctly felt my predeceased grandfather’s presence. This made so much sense to me, he was coming to meet my grammy for her time of death, and he was letting my mom know he was there.

I heard a spiritual intuitive and energy worker once say, if you think it’s a sign, it’s a sign, and I felt like that gave me all the permission I needed to completely concede into the conviction of belief. If you think it might be a sign and that thought gives you a reassuring sense of connection, then please let yourself fully believe and feel the abundance of comfort and peace that it brings you. I once randomly discovered an old voicemail from my grandfather and while I was listening to it, I realized it was his birthday. I felt like that was his way of giving me the most sentimental gift I ever could have imagined in honor of his birthday, getting to hear his voice again.

It's common for people to see butterflies or cardinals as a representation of a dead loved one visiting or finding feathers and coins in odd places as symbolic communication from the beyond. Of course, we could write experiences like these off as coincidence or random happenstance but if they bring us peace, comfort, and a sense of connection to our dead then I don’t see what’s problematic with that. A question that I often like to ask myself when processing some of my thoughts and narratives, that might be helpful if you are balancing between belief and doubt of a sign is, “Is this helpful to me?” If the answer is yes then forfeit your disbelief and allow your new truth in, if the answer is no then maybe it’s ok to let it go. Not everything has to be a sign but if you find it encouraging allowing it into your heart can be so soothing and healing.
